The Tech Recruiter Intel Series: Tip #4 - Be ENTHUSIASTIC
Recruiters Can Spot the Real Ones
This may be the most underused lever in the entire hiring process: genuine enthusiasm.
Recruiters told me they notice right away when someone is mailing it in. You can have the perfect resume, but if you show up flat, bored, or vague in the interview… it’s a no.
If you’re enthusiastic about a role, show it!
💌 Here’s what does make a difference:
A sincere and thoughtful answer to "Why this company?" (Spoiler: the answer is not "you have a job open.")
Familiarity with the product, recent press, or the team’s mission.
A warm, curious energy. Someone who’s clearly excited to be there.
Being genuine doesn’t mean being perfect. It means being present.
👉 You can’t fake good vibes.
If you’re struggling to sound excited, pause and ask: am I actually interested in this role? Because guess what - you’re allowed to be picky. And your energy doesn’t lie.
